A process that favors the survival and offspring of individuals best adapted to the environment in which they live. In the context of bioacoustics, natural selection favors communication behaviors and sound signals that increase the survival and/or genetic contribution to the next generation (direct and/or indirect progeny) of the sender and/or receiver.
