Propagation velocity of sound (ms⁻¹).
In air at sea level c ≃ 340ms⁻¹.
In fresh water c ≃ 1430ms⁻¹. The excat value depends upon pressure, temperature and tonicity; c in sea water is usually taken to be 1500ms⁻¹. [1]
