Propagation velocity of sound

Propagation velocity of sound [m s⁻¹]. In air at sea level c ≃ 340 m s⁻¹. In fresh water c ≃ 1430 m s⁻¹. The exact value depends upon pressure, temperature and tonicity; c in sea water is usually taken to be 1500 m s⁻¹.
